The genome of a transformed E.coli cell contains a piece of foreign DNA. Transformation is a process when a bacteria take in DNA from its environment which is usually  DNA that's been shed by other bacteria. It occurs more often in the laboratory, when the DNA may be introduced by scientists which is a key step in DNA cloning.
