Consecutive integers would be like 1 and 2 for example.  If x = 1, then to get from 1 to 2 we add one, or x + 1.  Therefore, for the intents and purposes of our equation, our integers will be represented as x and x + 1.  The sum of these is 89.  So x + x + 1 = 89.  2x + 1 = 89 and 2x = 88.  Therefore, x = 44 and x + 1 = 45.  Do 44 and 45 add up to 89?  Yes, they do! Yay!
