It is growing into nothingness. For humanity at least, we know nothing about the world beyond our little galaxy. There are no doubt civilizations beyond that distant expanse, but we will most likely never know. It is impossible for our human minds to be able to understand this concept as we are selfish beings that only care about ourselves--believing the whole wold revolves around us. Our world only grows as much as our knowledge and understanding of it. Perhaps once we are able to explore deeper into space, all we will find is the end. That our galexy is flat, like the world was once thought to be. The universe only expands as humans dictate it should. We name stars and meteors, claiming them as our own to define our ownership and our power over this uncontrollable space. The only way we able able to exert our control is knowledge, even something as little as made up knowledge like naming something after yourself. The universe only expands into what we let it, and nothing else.
