The story would be different in the sense that Mr. Lacey would have three separate problems to face. In the first place, the fact that he feels that he has not enough money to raise a dog at home. Secondly, he would have to cope with the guilt of abandoning an innocent puppy, which would probably be killed. Finally, he would have to deal with his daughter for refusing to keep the dog and leaving it at the pound to be put to sleep.
