The Court ruled in favor of the students since their arm bands did not disrupt the school environment. The school claimed that they were however the court claimed that the school board could not deem them as disturbing to the learning environment without evidence. Furthermore, the first amendment gave the students the right to advocate for a cause meaningful to them.
