By definition, density is mass per volume.

[tex]d=\frac{m}{v}[/tex]

Because volume is the unknown, solve for v.

[tex]v=\frac{m}{d}[/tex]

Plug in the given numbers:

[tex]v=\frac{20 g}{1.42 \frac{g}{ml} }=14.0845 ml[/tex]

The only operation done in the problem is division, and the number with the least significant figures is 20 (1 s.f.), so with correct significant figures, the volume is 10 ml.
