(x, y) → (- 4, - 3)

given the 2 equations

- 7x + 5y = 13 → (1)

2x - 5y = 7 → (2)

Adding the equations will eliminate the term in y

(1) + (2) term by term gives

(- 7x + 2x) + (5y - 5y) = (13+ 7 )

- 5x = 20 ( divide both sides by - 5 )

x = - 4

substitute into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

(2) → - 8 - 5y = 7 ( add 8 to both sides )

- 5y = 15 ( divide both sides by - 5 )

y = - 3

solution is (x, y) → (- 4, - 3)
