Help me solve this equation. -3(b-8) - 5 = 9(b + 2) +1

-3(b-8) - 5 = 9(b + 2) +1

distribute

-3*b -3*-8 -5 = 9*b +9*2 +1

multiply

-3b +24 -5 = 9b +18 +1

combine like terms

-3b +19 = 9b+19

add 3b to each side to get the variable on one side

19 = 12 b + 19

subtract 19 from each side to get the constants on the other side

0 = 12b

divide by 12 to get b alone

b =0

Answer: b=0

I think that b would equal zero, or b=0.
