We have to find how much water and sugar does she need to make 20% syrup.

By definition of proportion; we have

[tex]\frac{x}{5} = \frac{20}{100}[/tex]

Simplify:

[tex]\frac{x}{5} = \frac{1}{5}[/tex]

Multiply both sides by 5 we get;

[tex]x = 1[/tex]

Remaining = 5 -1 = 4 pounds of water

Therefore, 1 pounds of sugar and 4 pounds of water does she need to make 20% syrup.
