First we substitute symbols for the words: 390=60%x#. Then we divide both sides by .60 (or 60%): 390/.60=650. 650=#. 390 is 60% of 650 :) I hope this helps and makes sense!

Our next step will be to add 40% more to 390 (390 + 40%)  and simplify to 650.
