x + y = 14
x = 3y + 2

3y + 2 + y = 14
4y + 2 = 14
4y = 14 - 2
4y = 12
y = 12/4
y = 3 <===

x = 3y + 2
x = 3(3) + 2
x = 9 + 2
x = 11 <===
