The meninges are the tissues that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord. The meninges have the pia mater that is close to the brain, the spider web-like middle layer is called arachnoid mater, and the outermost and toughest layer is called the dura mater. It acts like a cushion for the brain, it sends nutrients to the brain and removes toxins from the brain.
