The first idea can be seen in the quality of the drawing: the artist tried to illustrate a human figure as close to reality as possible, which is very different from medieval art, in which human figures were not representative of the human form.
The second idea can be reflected in the importance that the artist gives to books. The Renaissance brought a new interest in science, philosophy and literature, specially from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. To Renaissance philosophers, books were very important because they represented access to a deeper understanding of society and the human condition.
