Longer Answer: The colonist were being taxed on many things like tea, paper, newspapers, sugar, etc, which lead to the Boston Tea Party. They wanted independence, they wanted to control their own government, tax their own products, and live by their rules. They didn't have the same rights as  actual citizens of Great Britain did.
