Because organisms inherit traits from the parents.For example you could have curly brown hair like your mom, whereas someone else can have blonde straight hair from their mom. Genes determine the traits that an organism will receive. DNA are small patterns that have to fit together.Each pattern is a code that gives the cells instructions for each trait because of the many different patterns. There are millions of patterns, and each is unique and specific.
