Distance between (5,-3) and (9,1)=√(9-5)^2+(1-(-3))^2

=√4^2+4^2

=√16+16

=√32 units

It's not possible to calculate the distance between these points by pythagoras theorem .We can easily calculate it by distance formula I.e.√(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y2)^2
