If you mean situations where we use SA and volume to figure out how much of something we need then here are some examples:

We use surface area to see how much wrapping paper is used to cover a gift.

We use surface area to find out how much paint you would need to paint a wall.

For volume:

We use volume to see how much water a pool needs.

We use volume to see how much of something you need for a recipe (when measuring ingredients in a cup).

Hope this helps!
