Oceanic lithosphere is lighter than the continental lithosphere, and this is because the oceanic lithosphere is thinner than the continental lithosphere. The oceanic lithosphere is softer and thinner, and in this parts the geologic activities are much more intense because the high temperature and pressure from the mantle manage to penetrate these parts easier and push magma upwards, creating volcanoes in meantime, as well as lots of earthquakes.
