let x be total amount of money

dress: 40% of x = 0.4x

left: x - 0.4x = 0.6x

shoes: 1/5x 0.6x = 0.12x

left: 0.6x - 0.12x = 0.48x

donate: $60

$132 left over

0.48x - 60 = 132

solve for x:

0.48 - 60 = 132

0.48x = 192

x = $400
