just understand that [tex]log_a(c)=b[/tex] means b is the power to which a must be raised to obtain c or  [tex]a^b=c[/tex]

so

[tex]6^3=216[/tex] means that b is the power to which a must be raised to obtain c or [tex]log_6(216)=3[/tex]
