Add lines on one variation, and add color gradients on another. Experiment and explore
with different layers till you are satisfied. Finally, merge the layers. Compare how you have used various
design elements to create a new image.

so do you have to use an already colored image? i think its pretty self explanatory. just create a new texture with the lines with a gradient after your satisfied just merge the layers. i would do a cliff of a beach, smthing like that.
