y=3x-10
3x+2y=16

substitute 
y=3x-10  into 3x+2y=16

3x+2y=16
3x+2(3x-10)=16
3x +6x - 20 = 16
9x = 36
x = 4

y=3x-10 
y=3(4)-10 
y=12-10
y=2

answer: x =4 and y = 2 or (4,2)
