The main function of the newsreels, a kind of small documentary that portrayed filmed news, was to disseminate information in an innovative way, since at the beginning of the century they were still mostly in print media. Roughly, the newsreel only lost its space when the television appeared and became popular in years 1950, fulfilling the function previously exclusive of these means.
