Let's add all the x^2. x^2+x^2+x^2+x^2 is 4x^2. Now let's add the variables. 4x+4x=8x. Now let's add the whole numbers. -2+-5+-2+-5 is -14. So our final equation will be 4x^2+8x-14. All you did wrong is that when you add exponents, you only add the bases.
