14x - 1/2(4x + 6) = 3(x - 4) - 18

Simplify everything.

14x - 2x - 3 = 3x - 12 - 18

Then, add like terms.

(14x - 2x) - 3 = 3x + (-12 - 18)

Simplify.

12x - 3 = 3x - 30

Now, subtract 3x from both sides, as well as adding 3 to both sides.

12x - 3x = -30 + 3

Simplify.

9x = -27

Divide 9 from both sides.

x = -27/9

Finally, simplify.

x = -3
