Why do sex-linked traits follow different patterns of inheritance than other traits

Because each sperm has either an x chromosome or a y chromosome. If it's a y that baby will be a boy. If it's an x it will be a girl. If the trait is x linked it means that boys have a higher probability of getting that trait. That's why it's different
