The distance you travel from seeing the danger to putting your foot one the brake pedal is known as the reaction distance.It is the distance the car travels in the time it takes the driver to react to the danger and step on the brake.It is the short time period between seeing the hazard and pressing the brake.
Braking distance, on the other side,  is the distance the car travels from the time the brakes are applied until it comes to a complete stop.
