From smallest to largest: Planetesimals to protoplanets to moon to planet. A planetesiamal is a small body from which planets originate. When planetesimals joins together they become protoplanet. An aggregation of protoplanets will become a moon or a planet. Moons are always smaller compared to the planet they orbit.
