We are given that:

5[2p-4(p+5)]=25


First thing to do is to divide everything by 5 so that:

2p-4(p+5)=5

 

Then distribute -4:

2p – 4p – 20 = 5

 

Combine like terms:

-2p = 5 + 20

-2p = 25

p = -12.5
