8(3) - 3y = 12

First, multiply 8 × 3 to get 24.
[tex]24 - 3y = 12[/tex]
Second, subtract '24' from both sides.
[tex]-3y = 12 - 24[/tex]
Third, subtract '12 - 24' to get '-12'.
[tex]-3y = -12[/tex]
Fourth, divide both sides by '-3'.
[tex]y = \frac{-12}{-3} [/tex]
Fifth, change the whole fraction to a negative.
[tex]y = \frac{12}{3} [/tex]
Sixth, 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Simplify your fraction to 4.
[tex]y = 4[/tex]

Answer: y = 4
