The lack of available energy when energy production via glucose has been depleted. When this scenario happens, the body ill usually turn to the tissues in order to keep the bodies cells alive with energy, and when the body goes through Adipose tissue (fat), it will then turn to muscle and organs.

Additionally Adipose tissue helps to conserve body heat, and allows for effective thermoregulation.
