the divisor is x-5, so the number you try is when x-5=0, which is x=5

5  I 1         -2        k            -30
    I             5        15         5(k+15)
    ___________________________
       1         3        k+15      -30+5(k+15)
for the remainder to be 0, that is, -30+5(k+15)=0
-30+5k+75=0
k=-9
