d = (Vi)t - 4.9t²
where t = 9 and Vi = 0
d = 0 - 4.9(9)²
d = -396.9 m

"d" is displacement, So the negative just represents that the object reduced it's height. df - di = 0 - 396.9

di = 396.9 m
