The Temperance Movement believed that alcohol consumption was rising and believed that if it were banished that it could ensure a safe, orderly an prosperous society. They believed that it would help clean up the cities they lived in an even eliminate poverty. While they all believed this would work, some believed it could be achieved by eliminating only hard liquor while some believed that all alcohol should be banned.
