Why is there more salt water in the world than fresh water?

We get salt water from sea water. Oceans are composed of sea water and is the main source of it. Oceans take 97% of Earth's entire amount of water. In contrast, we get fresh water mainly from groundwater. Groundwater is what we find underground, stored and moving through rocks and soil. Other sources are rain and snow which we get through evaporation. These will fill lakes, rivers, streams, etc. Overall, fresh water only amount up to 2.5% of Earth's total water volume.
