 10 = (3 + 5 + m)  / 3   (by the definition of the average)

8 + m = 3*10
m = 30 - 8

To find the average add up all the numbers and divide the total by the amount of numbers you added up.

Your equation would look like: [tex] \frac{3 + 5 + m}{3} = 10 [/tex]

[tex] \frac{8 + m}{3} = 10 [/tex]

Multiply both sides by 3.

8 + m = 30

Subtract 8 from both sides.

[tex] \boxed {m = 22} [/tex]
