FOIL is an acronym that stands for...
F = First
O = Outer
I = Inner
L = Last

This is a device to help remember the steps to expand out binomials when multiplying. For example, with something like (x+2)*(x+3)

An alternative to FOIL is to use the distributive property. Another alternative is to use the box method.
