y = 2x - 12
y = 3x + 12

The two slopes of the two equations are 2 and 3 respectively. They are the values just to the left of the x. Since the slopes are different, this means the lines are angled so that they are not parallel.

Non-parallel lines will cross exactly one time. So there is exactly one solution.
