[tex] \frac{5x-9}{4} = -2[/tex]

Multiply both sides of the equation by 4.

[tex]5x - 9 = -8[/tex]

Add 9 to both sides of the equation.

[tex]5x = 1[/tex]

Divide by 5.

[tex]x = \frac{1}{5} [/tex] // answer

Check:

[tex]\frac{5( \frac{1}{5} ) - 9}{4} = -2[/tex]

[tex] \frac{-8}{4} = -2[/tex]

[tex]-2 = -2[/tex]

Therefore, the answer is correct.
