If you have two numbers x, y.  The geometric mean is:  √xy

For 4 and x.  Geometric Mean =  √4x  and this is equal to √6

             √4x  =  √6     Square both sides.  The square root disappears.

               4x = 6
                 x  = 6/4 = 3/2 = 1.5

The other number is 1.5.
