Cities started massively growing. A huge number of migrants, both foreign and from farms from rural areas started moving to cities to work in the factories and the cities started increasing their size by a huge amount. This also led to a huge number of poor areas in towns as the workers were usually poorly paid since their jobs were low skilled.
