Production of contractions of varying force may occur when the whole muscle is changing length and also when lifting an object from the hand. Isotonic contractions of the muscles generate force by changing the length of the muscles and can be concentric contractions or eccentric contractions. A concentric contraction causes muscles to shorten, thereby generating force.
