Why can radioactive carbon be used by scientists to date the ages of ancient fossilized organisms??

Because of the half life of the radioactive carbon is 5,730 years,the mollar mass of carbon decreases in a half,by measuring the mass they will understand how many years old that organism is.Sorry for my English,I hope I helped you
