Add the 8 to each side and then solve for y. You should get 84=5y
 First you want to get the vairable (the letter(s)) by itself. So, you would add 8 to both side in order to remove the -8 from the left side. The equation would then be 5y=100. Then you divide 5 from both side and you would get 20.
